JOB SUMMARY
Manages, drives, plans, and implements vehicle scheduling, allocation, dispatching, licensing, and communication functions for the transportation needs of Friends of Children and Families (FOCAF) Head Start.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Ensures safety of company vehicle and bus fleet by organizing and directing preventive and regular maintenance and repairs
• Submits fiscal requests, monitors annual budget and expenditures. Monitors bus routes, pre & post checklist, parent sign in and out sheets, student count sheets, bus evacuation drills, vehicle trip report and receipts.
• Coordinates transportation requests and supports staff in arranging bus services for children and updates bus routes as needed.
• Ensures transportation policies and procedures are in compliance with Head Start Program Performance standards and agency, federal, state, and local laws.
• Assists with interviewing and hiring of bus driving staff.
• Develops policies, programs, and procedures for transportation system, including schedules, routes, assignment of drivers and vehicles, observations of drivers, and other operations.
• Provides training for all transportation staff.
• Conducts observations of bus drivers.
• Supports the implementation of accident reporting protocols.
• Keeps immediate supervisor, and designated others, fully and accurately informed concerning work progress.
• Communicates changes in transportation services to parents, volunteers, bus drivers, and staff.
• Maintains accurate records/documentation of training and driver observations.
• Substitutes as a driver or bus monitor as needed.
• Identify and approve bus routes ensuring that bus loading zones are safe.
• Plans and facilitates regular in-service meetings and training for transportation staff.
• Responsible for administering the bus communication phone system.
• Coordinators with the Associate Director of Operations on bus route closures due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.
• Prioritizes and adjusts to the changing demands of the position.
• Handles and adapts to stressful situations.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 21 years of age per DOT Regulation # 391.11 Subpart B.
• Must possess and maintain a current Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of Idaho with passenger and school bus endorsements and a clean driving record.
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
• A minimum of one year of experience as a transportation supervisor or three years as a school bus driver, supervisory, training, or management experience is desired.
• Must pass an enhanced criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and Head Start Program Performance Standards
• Must pass a drug test and submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
• Must pass a DOT physical exam and TB Test.
• Ability to complete training and maintain Boise City Childcare Worker License; and certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations regarding safety standards, vehicle driver requirements, etc.
• Must register on the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Strong oral and written and communication skills.
